By far writing a blog post on how to renew Philippine passport in Canada has taken so much of my time researching.
But then I know it is all worthwhile for all the Filipinos who need to have a valid passport which serve as an ID for an indefinite period (have you considered getting a driver’s license or provincial ID?) till they get the permanent resident (PR) card.
Or the much-awaited Canadian citizenship certificate. (Or have a dual citizenship of Filipino and Canadian.)

So let’s focus in renewing the passport the easiest way. It is possible so read on. By the end of this post, you can make a wise decision.
Three Ways to Renew Philippine Passport in Canada
Personal appearance is required for passport renewal. In spite of all the efforts, if by chance there’s a mistake in the blog post let me know by commenting. I appreciate your help.
First: walk in renewal in the Philippine embassy in Ottawa, Ontario (the only Philippine embassy in Canada) and PCG Toronto.
Second: wait for the announcement for consular outreach program in your area.
The Philippine Consulates (Charlottetown, Saskatoon) and Philippine Consulate Generals (Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, St. John’s, Toronto, and Vancouver) will visit different places in Canada as seen on the Consular Outreach Schedule available online.
Third: book an online appointment if you want to renew the Philippine passport in PCG Vancouver or send an email in PCG Calgary.
Tip: This is somewhat a fourth option. You can also renew the passport in the Philippines if time is not limited.
Do you already have an idea which is the best way for you? Keep on reading to find out the procedure and other details.
At the end of the post, I’m sure you can have an informed decision.
Tips on the Renewal of the Philippine Passport
The second option is more favorable considering where you live.
You can save time, energy, and money (save the plane ticket for vacation) and avoid mishap of any kind.
But to make it work you have to stay up-to-date and take note of the following reminders:
- Patience is a virtue. It should also be limitless. Don’t lose patience (and your manners) no matter what in making phone call, writing email, and most of all during the personal appearance.
- Vigilance is another virtue. The Internet is your best ally in keeping informed. And by that make sure you have a reliable Wifi. It shouldn’t fail you in this crucial period. (Posting selfie or photos and updating status can wait. Or just forget about it. You’ll be tagged anyway.)
After getting all the reminders and influx of information, it’s time to choose where you are going to renew your Philippine passport.
The following Philippine embassy and consulates in Canada inform the public about upcoming outreach program, announcements, and more through their social media and websites.
(Other consulates have no websites or social media account but you can stay up-to-date through other consulates online presence.)

First Option: consular outreach program of the embassy in other provinces
- Check the announcement for updates.

Second Option: once-a-month weekend (Saturday) consular services in the embassy
You can download the list of dates on which you can avail the services (passports, NBI Clearance, legalization of documents and others) of the embassy made available to the public. The service starts from 9:00 am-12:00 nn. You can call during the office hours for questions and updates.

Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver
First Option: consular outreach program of the consulate general in other provinces
- Check the announcement for updates of the outreach and list of passport applicants with confirmed appointments.
- Check the tentative schedule of consular outreach services in Brooks,
Calgary(there’s now a Philippine Consulate General in Calgary), Cranbrook, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Kelowna, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Nanaimo, Prince George, Victoria, Whitehorse and Yellowknife.
You must book an online appointment to secure a slot. Mark the booking date and brace yourself for the marathon. (Stretch your fingers and blink less.) The dates may change and the server can crash.
It has happened in the past–I can attest to that. And we don’t know when it will occur again. With the long list of outreach services in different provinces and growing number of Filipinos in Canada, I hope it don’t happen again.
Didn’t I say you must have patience and vigilance to renew Philippine passport in Canada?
Second Option: passport renewal in PCG Vancouver

- How to Renew Philippine Passport in Vancouver (Part 1) – find out how to book an appointment online.
- How to Renew Philippine Passport in Vancouver (Part 2) – choose the best route of traveling and take the SkyTrain either from Pacific Central Station or Vancouver Airport (YVR).
If you choose (or have no choice) the second option, don’t miss reading the post. You will learn travel guides and more; all were the result of my misadventure (or not, it just a matter of perspective).

Philippine Honorary Consulate Winnipeg
The Philippine Honorary Consulate Winnipeg doesn’t seem to have a website. Instead, I was able to find the Facebook page with information about consular outreach program of other consulates in Winnipeg. You can like the page to stay in the loop for announcement, tip, and event.
So Where Do You Go from Here?
Have you chosen which is the most convenient way of Philippine passport renewal in Canada? I hope you do because I’m done here.
Don’t worry. I’ll keep updating this post whenever necessary. Time to relax. I feel like I have traveled across Canada by writing this post. Someday I will have a vacation.
Right now, I’m relieved ever since I renewed my passport in Vancouver.
I’m a little tired since I’ve been struggling not to wander on the Internet while writing. (OK, I did once or twice. Or more.) This post is my gift to you. You now have the knowledge to renew Philippine passport in Canada.
So go get the new e-Passport. (And get an ID if you don’t have one yet.)
No! SIN and health card don’t count. You’ll need a photo ID for most of the transaction asking for your identity.
May I ask a favour? Can you share your experience and tips to our fellow kababayan. Salamat!
Klarees says
Hello!
I just have a question. I want to renew my passport that will expire this November 23 because I also want to renew my TRV that will expire this March 13. However, I got married in Jan 19 and I know I will be changing my surname that will be reflected on my new passport. But the marriage certificate won’t be issued not until 8-10 weeks after the marriage took place which means I still have to wait by then.
Can I just renew my passport while waiting for my marriage certificate with The Record of Solemnization of Marriage instead? Or can I just renew my passport and retain my maiden name? Because I am after my TRV before it expires since I will be going home this July for a two week vacation.
Thank you!
Carolyn says
Klarees, I was confused with your plan. Here’s my thought. You can prioritize your TRV renewal. After you get it, apply for a new passport by first week of March so you can have a new passport by July. Let’s just hope you have the marriage document by this time. If not, wait for it and move your vacation beyond July if possible since it takes 8-10 weeks to get the new passport.
Jeff says
Hi! My wife needs to renew her passport and we got married in Toronto, we are both Filipino and would like her to use my surname. On passport renewal should we just assume to put my name or there were other steps needed to fullfill prior to changing her surname? Thanks
Carolyn says
Marriage contract is one of the requirements and if she legally changed her surname then there’s probably no issue in renewing the passport with your last name.
Shie says
Is there any size of xpresspost envelope required? Thank you and more power.
Carolyn says
Small envelope that would fit the passport.
kristine says
Hi, I would like to ask regarding my passport. My passport had a tear during my enter here in canada, can i still use my passport during my visa application to US, or I shall renew it first before I apply? Is there a fast Track or i mean if I renew my passport now I can get it for a month?
HOping for your response! Thank you!
Carolyn says
I supposed it would be all right if it wasn’t that bad at all. There’s no way to fastrack the process. You can choose the closest date for appointment and make sure not to miss the interview. Hope you let us know of the outcome Kristine.
Carlo says
Hi! Your post says passport renewal processing time is only 30 business days. However, in the embassy website, it’s written that it will take at least 3 months for passport to be renewed. I’m hoping their website is just outdated.
Thanks!
Carolyn says
Thanks for pointing it out. I updated the post.
Chris says
Hi, I need to know if it’s possible to apply for a passport renewal in PCG Toronto but pick up the passport in Philippines?
Carolyn says
Hi Chris, if you are going to renew the passport in Toronto, you have to leave/surrender the old passport. With that in mind, why not renew your passport in the Philippines instead. Let me know how it goes.
Gina Junio says
hi, i have a question, my i am dual citizen and my philippine passport is expired can i travel to philippines with only my canadian passport ? or if not i already have the form for renewal, do i have to send the picture 2X2 also?
Carolyn says
Hi Gina. Based from the travelling guidelines of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, as a dual citizen, you should have valid Canadian and Philippine passports. You can refer to this blog post for the requirements depending on which consulate general or embassy you are going to renew the Philippine passport.
Yoli says
Hi, can I still apply for a Philippine passport, though I’m using a Canadian passport now? I still kept my old Philippine passport, can I still renew it? Salamuch po.
Carolyn says
Hi Yoli,
You can get a Philippine passport by applying for dual citizenship. You can read this post on how to apply for dual citizenship in Canada.
Eleanor says
We were at the US border office(Pacific-Xing) close to Blaine, Washington for the interview. When the CBP officer said that my children’s passport expired last Aug. We were turned around & refused entry. We have a trip coming up to LA at the end of the month, my question is: can we ask for an extension of the passports. I booked for a renewal at Vancouver office & it will be in November. Please advise. Thanks
Carolyn says
Eleanor in the article “What You Need to about the PHL Passport” the validity of the passport can be extended by meeting the conditions. If extension is not applicable, you may ask about other option such as travel document.
Teresa says
Is there any way to expedite the Philippine passport in Canada ? Need my passport back to extend my work permit that is going to expire before I get the new passport back.
Carolyn says
Zilch, nada, not possible. Teresa there’s no way to expedite the application for the Philippine passport in Canada or any consulate or embassy in other countries. It is only possible in the Philippines which can take 15 or 7 days.
Helen McLellan says
My passport is been expired a few years back and i lost it prior to moving. I need to get a new one, Please advice what to get for requirements. I am going to visit Philippines in December. Hope to get a response sooner.
Carolyn says
Helen you didn’t mention where you live still I would recommend you to book an appointment for a consular outreach program to your province or head on to PCG Vancouver (appointment is still required) or to Philippine Embassy in Ottawa or other consulates you prefer.
Some say they received their new passport after three months, so I suggest you to not delay your application for the Philippine passport just to make sure you can spend Christmas in the Philippines–with all the lights, sounds, and food. (I’m already thinking of Simbang Gabi and Noche Buena.)
J Dee says
What if the Canadian tourist visa expires with the passport, and I plan to renew my passport while in Canada? Will that be valid?
Carolyn says
J Dee you can renew your tourist visa online which will take 25 days. You didn’t mention how many days are left before the expiration of your passport. Still, the important thing is to have a valid status (visitor) in Canada.
Your question reminds to write about the application of visitor visa. It will be among my top priority. Thanks for asking.
eden calabio says
do you know if i can renew my phil passport if my pr is expired? however, my citizenship application is under process.
Carolyn says
Eden, I’m sorry but I’m not aware on how to deal with your situation.
But I recommend you to email or call the Philippine consulates or embassy in Canada to get first-hand information.
I hope you receive a positive response and good luck to your citizenship!
