How To Renew NBI Clearance In Calgary

Updated on September 1, 2020 by Carolyn Leave a Comment

After writing the post about the services of the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, I received an email from a reader asking on how to renew the NBI Clearance in Calgary, Alberta.

In this post, I wrote the experience of my friend who renewed her NBI Clearance in the the consulate a few weeks ago.

So although I don’t have a personal experience to contribute as compared to most of my posts, I shared important information you will need in accomplishing the task from Canada to the Philippines and back.

Before we get into the process, let’s figure out the where first.

Where to Renew the NBI Clearance

Philippine Consulate General in Calgary

If you are commuting which I would recommend, commute through C-Train and get off at 4th St. Station in downtown Calgary.

From the station you will see the Holt Renfrew; from there walk towards south.

You cannot miss the Centre 10 Building unless of course you are stuck in the shopping mall which always has something on sale.

Renew NBI Clearance in Calgary

How to Renew NBI Clearance in Calgary

It’s time to deal with the how and requirements. I’ll try to be as accurate as possible.

Step 1: Gather all the required documents.

Requirements:

  1. Photo (2×2)
  2. Cash payment ($33.75)

Step 2: Proceed to fingerprinting.

In the PCG Calgary, you will undergo fingerprinting of NBI Form No.5 which you will have to send to the Philippines to your relatives through Canada Post or UPS.

Step 3: NBI Clearance processing from Canada to Philippines.

This final step likely determines how long it will take to get the renewed NBI Clearance. Choose a trusted, non-procrastinator family member or relative in doing the final step.

Don’t forget to write an authorization letter with a signature. Inform the officer about the purpose of NBI clearance renewal: for permanent resident application.

The renewal fee in the Philippines is Php 115.00 and the processing only takes one day.

So if you found “The Flash” who will carry out this important task, I’m assuming you can renew your clearance in one month.

Before you celebrate let’s move on to the Philippine setting, the last crucial topic.

How to Send the Renewed NBI Clearance from Philippines to Canada

You shouldn’t overlook the last trip the clearance has to go through before it reach your home.

I check the courier delivery services in the Philippines and found three companies you are probably aware of:

  1. DHL
  2. FedEx
  3. 2Go

So how much is the fee?

Among the transportation companies, I was able to check the rate and time in FedEx’s and 2Go’s website without creating an account.

The result is an estimate for a document (1 kg); Manila is the point of reference and Calgary is the destination.

1. DHL Shipping Rate and Transit Time

I have to create an account to check the rate. I decided not to but here’s the link if you want to give it a try.

2. FedEX Shipping Rate and Transit Time

For an eight-day delivery (FedEx International Economy), the cost is Php 1,762.00 and Php 3,023.oo for faster delivery within six days (FedEX Internation Priority).

A bit expensive? Try to enter your own information in the calculator and see if you can get a lower quote.

3. 2Go Shipping Rate and Transit Time

Here’s the good news from 2Go, the cost is only Php 1,500.00 with transit time of 2-3 days.

Cheaper. Faster.

How’s that possible? You can check the international rate for accuracy.

Don’t take my word for it. I didn’t try any of these companies so I cannot vouch for their service.

If you are a bit skeptical and with a little luck, I have another trick that wouldn’t cost you anything at all.

Ask your family member, relative, or even a family friend who is in the Philippines and about to go back in Canada to bring the renewed NBI Clearance for you. This only proves that it helps to learn the important qualities of a newcomer.

This will work if you have a lot of time and the entrusted delivery person living in the same city where you are residing.

Tip: you can also do this trick in sending the NBI Form No. 5 to the Philippines.

I ran out of tricks for now.

But as always, I’ll ask a favour from you to share any tips in the comment so we can inform the other Filipino workers in Canada.

Plan . . . plan . . . plan.

With the information you’ve read, I know you can make an informed decision on how to renew NBI Clearance in Calgary without stretching the budget and in a short period.

Here’s a challenge: accomplish the task with $100.00 and within a month (Philippine transactions are included).

Let’s see how many can succeed in the challenge.

How’s your experience in the PCG Calgary?
