Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your thought. Same as you, I'm a Permanent Resident here in Canada, planning to take a vacation this coming October to the Philippines. My passport validity is on April 25, 2018 which is still valid upon my arrival there in the Philippines in terms of 6 months validity rule. My worry is, I'm coming back by 1st week of November which is beyond the 6 months validity. I'm checking online as I'm planning to renew it in the Philippines but could not get a slot for a 7-day passport processing. Can I still come back here in Canada without any hassle in Philippine immigration?

I actually didn't have any problems with my soon-to-expire passport. :) and that's because of the Permanent Resident status that I have. So the 6-month rule doesn't apply to me. I've thought about renewing my passport in Philippines but they have a new system now that you have to book an appointment online and when I tried, it was fully booked for the next 2 months.

It is necessary if you want to come back in Canada in the future. The <a href="http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/voluntarily-renounce.asp" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">application</a> has no fee.

I hope you don't mind me asking if you have renounced your permanent residency. Additional information can help in finding the right answer.
