How To Renew Philippine Passport In Vancouver (Part 2)

Updated on September 3, 2020 by Carolyn 29 Comments

I’m guessing you are determined (and even excited) to embark on a journey and already reading the Part 2 of How to Renew Philippine Passport in Vancouver to pick up some guides on how to get to the Philippine Consulate in Vancouver.

Well, you’re in the right place. But first make sure that you didn’t skip the first two steps in Part 1:

  1. Completing all the requirements.
  2. Booking an appointment online.

Double check everything. Remember it’s all about planning. You can make the trip worthwhile and if you have a limited time to explore the city the following last two steps will help you accomplish the task in no time.

Let’s start the journey!

Step 3: Traveling to the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver

For this post two common means of transportation is considered: by plane or bus.

The Destination: Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver

Temporary Address (as of August 1): Suite 660, 999 Canada Place Vancouver, British Columbia, V6C 3E1
Phone: (604) 685-1619 or (604) 685-7645
Fax: (604) 685-9945

Office hours:
9:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday
9:00 am – 6:00 pm Every last Friday of the month

Totem Pole in Stanley Park
Starting Point: Vancouver Airport (YVR)

You have various choices to get to your destination from the immense YVR Airport such as taxi, car rental or Canada Line.

Related Post: Cheap Car Insurance in Canada

Choose the fastest way to travel without spending beyond your budget:

Option 1: From the airport you can board a taxi in Domestic Terminal Arrivals at Level 2 (taxi stand). You can also call a cab but don’t forget to check the fare.

Yellow Cab: (604) 681-1111
Sunshine Cabs Ltd.: (604) 988-8888
Black Top & Checkers Cabs: (604) 731-1111
MacLure’s Cabs: (604) 731-9211
Vancouver Taxi: (604) 871-5111

Option 2: Other means of transportation such as car rentals and courtesy shuttles (YVR to hotels) are available.

Option 3: The best and cheapest of all is via Canada Line. Why travel in Canada line?

  • It’s affordable. A DayPass cost only $10.00, an affordable price to explore Vancouver for a day. Use it in buses, SkyTrain, and SeaBus. (Renew Philippine passport first as early as you can. Afterwards you can turn into a tourist without appointment in mind.)
  • It’s fast yet you will have time to enjoy the view on the way.Take out your camera. If it’s not cloudy or raining, you can take great photos from high perspective.
  • The train is spacious so you can either stay by the window standing or transfer to another seat as you please. (Just don’t make it look too obvious that you are a tourist. Not yet. You still have an appointment.)

Don’t get excited yet. You must purchase the DayPass in 7 Eleven or Pharmasave at the Domestic Terminal Arrivals (Level 1). Take the elevator in Level 2 to go to Level 4 where you’ll find the YVR – Airport Station of Canada Line.

Travel Guide:

  1. Board Canada Line from YVR- Airport Station. Get off at Waterfront Station.
  2. View the Google Map for a 3-min walk to the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver.

Pacific Central in Vancouver, BC

Starting Point: Pacific Central Station

Address: Pacific Central Station, 1150 Station St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 4C7, Canada
Arrivals and departures: (888) 842-7245
Information and reservation: (888) 842-7245

If you travel by bus, you’ll likely arrive at Pacific Central Station. It provides intercity coach service and bus depot:

  • Pacific Coach Lines (Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler, and Squamish)
  • Greyhound Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon)
  • BoltBus (northeastern and western United States and British Columbia, Canada)

Travel Guide:

  1. Walk towards Main Street-Science World Station across the Pacific Central Station.
  2. Purchase a DayPass to accommodate your trip throughout the day.
  3. Get off at Waterfront Station.
  4. View the Google Map for a 3-min walk to the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver.

Step 4: Submitting the Requirements

This is the last phase of the journey. Afterwards you can reward yourself with cakes (Brazo please) from Goldilocks or chicken from Max’s Restaurant.

Procedure:

  1. Submit the confirmation email and all the requirements at the front desk.
  2. Later on you will have to pay $81.00 for the renewal.
  3. Wait for your turn to be called inside the office for the photo capture, signing, fingerprinting, and data encoding and verification.

Tip: The best time is early morning. After lunch more applicants arrive and it may take you some time to renew your passport.

All of these procedures can be accomplished in less than 30 minutes. Some say not even 10 minutes. It all depends in the number of people renewing their passport and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver.

Finally! It’s the end of the road. Usually you will receive the new passport within a month.

You’ll have to wait five years before you can embark on another journey of passport renewal in Vancouver or other Philippine Consulates in Canada.

It is fun to travel but isn’t it nice to visit other provinces out of pleasure and not necessity. I hope in the coming years there will be a Consulate of Philippines in each province of Canada. (A proposal was made to establish a consular office in Alberta. I’m optimistic about the proposal but I’m not putting too much hope. The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary has been serving the public since 2016 in downtown.)

Have a safe trip in Vancouver, British Columbia. Enjoy the weather, view, and Filipino foods (puto, palabok, sinigang and so much more).

Remember to read Part 1 of How to Renew Philippine Passport in Vancouver if you miss it.

We can make this trip memorable and hassle-free. Share your tips and experience to our kababayan who will renew their passport for the first time.

Hi, Noar. I suppose you can travel by plane since your passport is still valid. Usually, you are not required to show your passport for domestic flight. And yes you are right that appointment is not required in renewing Philippine passport in the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto. May you have fun in Toronto with your friends. That`s definitely a good way to start a new year. New passport. New experience.

Hi, I’m just applying for the reacquisition of my Philippine citizenship. Do I still need to make an appointment or can I just walk up to the booths and submit application and documents?

    Thank you

Dado you have the option of going to PCG Vancouver or submit the application for the retention of Philippine citizenship through mail. Either way your presence is required in the oath-taking ceremony.

Hi, Sheila. First, I can’t recommend the place where I stayed in Vancouver (for a night). It was fine for me but not for others. (I don’t want to ruin your (firs?) vacation in Vancouver.) But I do have some suggestions in finding the perfect place for your trip in Vancouver: check my reply to Rikka on August 1. Second: remember book as early as you can to get the best deal.

    Hi Carolyn,
Recently i got a request from CIC to submit my passport for visa stamping (permanent resident) within 60 days, my problem is i just renewed my passport last Sept. 18 in Cranbrook BC and i don’t think i will be able to submit on time. Do you think it’s possible that i authorize one of my relative in the Philippines to pick up my passport in my behalf and send it back to me?
Thank you so much for spending your time and prompt attention at this matter.

Angel, first, let’s focus on the silver lining: you are closer to having a permanent resident status.

Now onto the pressing issue. I received my passport after two months and permanent resident card (under the LCP) after one month and three weeks. Both in this year. I’m saying this just so you can have an idea how long is the process. I suggest you to call or visit the Philippine Consulate. And if that fails you may ask your relatives back home to call the DFA about your case.

This is just what I can think of right now. When I received the interview invitation for PR, I had to reschedule via email because I’m still waiting for my passport. I applied at that time for the renewal of multiple-entry visa.

After asking the staff from Philippine representatives in Canada then you can call the CIC and explain your situation. In my experience, they always give the best solutions.

This is as much as I can do for you Angel. May the odds be ever in your favor. (Sounds familiar? Can’t help to show my fondness in Hunger Games.) Please do let us know the outcome. (Stay positive!)

It usually takes two months but it may take longer since their is somewhat a “machine failure” at DFA in the Philippines where all the passports are processed. The information is passed on by Andy in the Part 1. He applied for a travel document for his son who can now travel with him in the Philippines even without a passport. They will get the passport in the Philippines instead.

Hi, I’m planning to renew my passport and it looks like the earliest appointment available online right now is November 5… I was hoping to travel sometime in December, maybe 1st or second week. Do you think it’s possible to receive my passport by then? I would greatly appreciate your response! Thank you!

Charlene it takes two months to receive your passport if you are going to renew your passport in PCG Vancouver or through the consular outreach program. The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa allows walk-in applicants to renew their passport.

You just have to make sure that your passport is valid at least six months before you travel. Or you can renew your passport in the Philippines. It will only take seven to fourteen days with varying fee.

Can i renew my passport & set an appointment on Dec 2014 , even my passport will expire on jan 2016 because i will go on vacation to the Philippines on June 2015. Can just pick-up my new passport when done rather than you mail it. Hoping for your kind reply on this and thank you.

I congratulate you Lolita for planning your itinerary. (It makes me think that 2016 is not too far.) Since your passport will expire in 2016, you could renew your passport in the Philippines. The processing takes only 15 or 7 days. You got it right. In DAYS!

So why not take advantage of such fast processing. (Now what about the queue?)
Whatever you choose Lolita enjoy your vacation. And stay hydrated. (Buko juice anyone?)

    Gumagalang at Nagpapasalamat,

    Edilberto Vasquez

Hi! I am wondering if I have to leave my old passport to the PCG when renewing it. Do I have to receive my old and new passport via mail? Are they in the same envelope? Thank you so much!

      Hi, John.

You’ll have to leave your old passport at PCG but don’t worry it will be mailed along with your new passport in the same self-addressed envelope you submitted at PCG Vancouver. Though the old passport will have holes on the side rest assured nothing will be lost. Whatever proof of identity or status you have inside such as temporary resident visa or US visa will remain intact.

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you’ll receive your new passport in less than two months (maximum period).

I’m glad the post has helped in planning your trip.

And of course to enjoy your stay here are my tips in finding the best hotel deals in Vancouver:
      1. Trivago – I like the simplicity of the site. You can easily pick from the list by comparing the price and rating. You can also filter the search by preferred price, service (wifi, breakfast, etc.), distance, and rating.
      2. Tripadvisor – For more list of hotels and honest reviews by travelers you can count on Tripadvisor.

Tip: Use Trivago to find the perfect accommodation that fits your budget and head on to Tripadvisor to discover the experiences (both good and bad) from others.

      Hi, Barbette.

I’ll try to give my best advice about your situation. First, contact the consulate to make sure that the other two passports were sent whether together with the other two that you’ve received or sent on a later day. If the four passports were sent via Canada Post, you should go to the nearest branch and ask how it can be tracked.

If you use your credit card in buying the self-addressed envelope, you can show the credit card statement as a proof along with the date it was purchased.

It took me two months to get mine so yours should arrive soon.
I sincerely hope that you’ll receive the remaining passports this month.

Noemi I understand how are you feeling right now. I also had difficulty booking an appointment online. I tried twice.

And failed twice. That’s when I decided to go to Vancouver instead.

This blog post was written out of mishap and disappointment. I’m hoping to guide others from online booking to traveling to Vancouver. And also keep an eye on the booking day.

It may suddenly change. The website will slow down because of the high volume of traffic on the booking day.

Joan you need to have a valid passport if you are going to renew your visa since it is one of the requirements. And based on my experience the expiration of the new visa is the same as the expiration of the passport. So I suggest you Joan to renew the passport before applying for the visa but it’s up to you to decide.
